Hello, I'm Lillie!

I'm a very creative thinker and am driven by my passion to make this world a better, happier place. My goal is to find my purpose in life and, along the way, become an inspiration to others.
My Story
Before becoming a student at UC, I grew up in a small town called Bethel, right outside of the city. Even though I lived on the border of it my whole life, this is the first time I feel fully immersed in Cincinnati and I couldn't be happier. Growing up in a small town, I craved the hustle and bustle environment of the city. This fascination with the tall buildings and bright lights is partly why I chose to pursue a career in Fashion Design, it thrives there. There are so many different sides to Fashion Design that people don't get to see, and I hope to dive into the in's and out's of the industry head on. I knew from a very young age that I was meant for the city and now that dream has come true. Being here has given me the opportunity to follow my passion and meet some of the most interesting and genuine individuals.
I hope to explore what my program has to offer in full, including co-ops, organizations, clubs, and more! Through my UHP experience, I plan to take my studies and... enhance them, in a way. My experiences will not only introduce me to areas of my study that I hadn't thought existed, but they will also give me the opportunity to grow and become someone for others to become inspired by. Outside of my studies, I enjoy the finer things in life, such as reading, coffee, snickerdoodle cookies, fall weather, binge-watching reality TV, comforting aesthetics, a well-coordinated outfit, and spending time with the ones I love. When I work with others, I value communication and honesty. I also appreciate a good attitude; I truly believe that a positive mindset is the key to success. Failures are bound to happen, but it is what we learn from them that leads to victory. I cannot wait to see how the rest of my story unfolds in my journey at UC!

My Journey So Far
A Purposeful Reflection
During my senior year of high school I took on the responsibility of being the President of our National Honors Society. I was so excited to take on this role because I knew I could be the leader that my fellow members needed me to be. I have always strived to take on leading positions, I feel as though I am drawn towards them. This mindset shined through in sports, group projects, etc. With all of this in mind, I was thrilled to take on this position. However, I had not realized just how taxing the position would be. I had started out strong, coming up with new ideas to help service our school/community, but it soon became difficult to balance with school and sports. I started to lose sight of my responsibilities as President and as a leader for others to be motivated by. In realizing this I began to take charge. Soon enough I was back on the horse, leading meetings with intention, leading events, and making the effort to engage with our community as well.
I had even attended a town council meeting to discuss service events and bring ideas from a younger generation. By the end of the year I felt extremely proud of myself and the turnaround I was able to make. I believe I set the standard for my peers and inspired them to keep getting involved for their following year. I graduated knowing I led my members with intent and a positive attitude, and that is something I will continue to reflect on into my adult years. My strengths, identities, and personal values played a big role in this experience. Some of my strengths include love, love of learning, and leadership. Together, these strengths made taking on some of those responsibilities easier to digest. I was able to approach them with a positive mindset, driven to keep learning and help others along the way. A few of my core values include ambition, compassion, and empathy. I think these values not only drive me to be the best version of myself but to also be that person that others aren’t afraid to go to for advice, guidance, etc.
My strengths, identities, and personal values played a big role in this experience. They also help make communication a safer, more comfortable place. In regards to my identity, this experience showed me where I needed to grow as a person. Some big parts of my identity are my gender and age. I believe that I can make an influence as a woman with drive. In this particular position I was able to propose ideas for feminine products pacts for the Women’s Center, something very important to me and my identity as a woman. I think age is an important factor as well because I was able to discuss new ideas on behalf of the younger generation to those on our town council. Overall, I think this experience was not only a great way to grow as a leader, but also the perfect opportunity to fully reflect on myself and adapt to a higher position that required more responsibility than I’d previously had. I plan to use this experience as a guide to how I may approach changes in college as well. College is a completely different environment and I anticipate to grow, learn, fail, succeed, and so much more.
