REASON

The story behind my vision board

This past year I had several experiences that led to huge realizations. During my first semester at UC, I took UHP's Gateway to Honors course. This was the only course I took completely outside of my major, which is Fashion Design. While the class was only held once a week, I found myself looking forward to it more and more. Since most of my classes are at DAAP, my day-to-day schedule can feel pretty isolating. Gateway was like a breath of fresh air. It made me realize how important it is to me to be in an environment with people outside my major.

Flash forward a few months into my second semester, I attended my first meeting with HER Campus UC, an online media platform and community specifically designed for college women. My roommate was already a member and invited me to their Galentine's-themed meeting. Being around other women, building bouquets, and playing silly Valentine's-themed games gave me that same feeling again. I needed to branch out and take the first step in finding a community that brought me comfort. HER Campus also opened up a wonderful opportunity for me, which is writing articles. Writing is a passion of mine that blossomed in high school and I've been waiting for the chance to hone my skills.

At the end of the semester, I was given another great opportunity. I was able to talk to a few upperclassmen in my major. At this point, I was very lost in what I wanted to do in my future career. The fashion industry is a wide spectrum, and I didn't know where I fit. Right before I left, one of them told me to look into magazine work. It was as if someone had slapped me in the face. How had I not thought of that before? I left the room feeling elated. The idea of working for a fashion magazine such as Vogue or Elle stoked a passion in me that relieved weeks of confusion. Now that the year is over, and I have reflected on all of these experiences, I know my goals for next year. Along with how I am going to achieve them. My top goals for next year include honing my skills in magazine-style writing,

to make more connections with other students, and gain confidence in myself and my work. I am going to achieve these goals by becoming a full member of Her Campus and writing articles for their website, finding more ways to connect with others such as workout classes, UC events, etc., and identifying when I am speaking negatively about myself and stopping it. I believe my vision board encapsulates this perfectly in a way that empowers me. I chose a vision board because I am a firm believer in manifestation and speaking things into existence. This board helps me envision my positive future and clarifies my intentions for next year. I think looking at this vision board weekly will guide my subconscious mind to accomplish my goals and thrive both academically and professionally.
